About Our Journey

Learn how our journey from corporate life to homesteading has shaped our mission of living simply and intentionally.

At Wildly Bold, we are committed to living a life rooted in simplicity, self-sufficiency, and natural healing.

Our 3.5 acre homestead in West Virginia represents more than just a place to grow food and raise animals—it’s a reflection of our journey towards living a life of purpose, where every day is connected to nature and focused on what truly matters.

Through our story and our experiences, we aim to inspire others to embrace a simpler, healthier lifestyle that prioritizes self-sufficiency and natural wellness.

From Corporate Life to a Wildly Bold Life

Our journey didn’t begin on a homestead but in a very different environment.

For years, my husband, Joe, worked in the corporate office of a large food manufacturing company. His role required frequent travel, sending him to countries like India, Brazil, and Mexico to conduct audits.

Meanwhile, I worked from home as a life coach, helping entrepreneurs gain confidence and clarity in their businesses.

Although our lives appeared stable and successful, beneath the surface, we were starting to feel the toll of a lifestyle that no longer aligned with our values.

As Joe’s corporate job became more demanding, I could see how the constant travel and high-pressure work environment were affecting him.

At the same time, I had just returned from spending a month with my mother, reflecting on how far we had strayed from the simple life we had always wanted.

We both knew something had to change.

Our lives were moving in a direction we hadn’t anticipated, and we were starting to lose sight of the life we had once dreamed of.

Determined to reconnect with nature and take back control of our time, we decided to buy an RV.

The plan was simple: we would use it on weekends and vacations to escape from the busyness of our everyday lives and explore places we hadn’t seen before.

Little did we know, this decision would be the catalyst for a much bigger change.

How COVID Changed Our Perspective

Joe and Jana

Shortly after buying the RV, COVID-19 hit, and like so many others, we found ourselves with time to reflect.

The pandemic brought everything into sharp focus.

Suddenly, the things that once seemed so important—job titles, busy schedules, and financial success—felt insignificant in the face of what really mattered: our health, happiness, and connection to each other and the world around us.

During this period, we traveled up and down the East Coast in our RV, spending extended time in places like the Florida Keys, where we stayed for eight unforgettable months.

Those months were transformative.

We immersed ourselves in the beauty of the natural world, lived at a slower pace, and realized that the simple life we had always wanted wasn’t just a dream—it was within reach.

However, as gas prices began to rise and the pandemic shifted our priorities, we knew that the time had come to find a more permanent place to call home.

We wanted a space where we could put down roots, grow our own food, and live more self-sufficiently.

That search led us to a 3.5-acre piece of land in West Virginia, where Wildly Bold Homestead was born.

While we didn’t sell the RV, it now serves as a reminder of our journey and the freedom we found in stepping away from the pressures of modern life.

Our Mission: Simplify, Nurture and Heal

At Wildly Bold, our mission is simple: to live intentionally by simplifying our lives, nurturing our souls, and healing our bodies naturally.

We believe that these three guiding principles can lead to a more fulfilling and sustainable way of living, and we’re passionate about sharing what we’ve learned with others.

Simplify Life

Living simply is at the heart of everything we do.

On our homestead, we are trying to grow most of our own food, raise laying hens and lionhead rabbits, and practice traditional skills like canning, dehydrating, and preserving to reduce our reliance on external sources.

Homesteading allows us to focus on what truly matters—nourishing our bodies, connecting with nature, and reducing the noise and distractions of modern life.

We also prioritize meal planning and use slow cooker recipes, freezer meals, and pantry staples to simplify our daily routine in the kitchen.

For us, simplicity means creating a life that is both intentional and sustainable, and we love sharing tips and tricks for others who want to do the same.

Nurture The Soul

At Wildly Bold, we believe that nurturing the soul is just as important as caring for the body.

Our homestead provides a peaceful environment where we can reconnect with ourselves and nature.

Whether we’re spending time in the garden, tending to the animals, or enjoying the quiet beauty of the land, these moments bring a sense of fulfillment and purpose that is difficult to find in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

We encourage others to nurture their souls by slowing down, being present, and finding joy in simple, meaningful experiences.

Through our blog, social media, and workshops, we share practical ways to cultivate mindfulness, peace, and connection to the natural world.

Heal The Body Naturally

My breast cancer diagnosis 10 years ago was a turning point in how I view health and wellness.

While modern medicine played a vital role in my recovery, the experience led us to explore natural healing methods and holistic approaches to health.

Today, we grow a variety of medicinal herbs on our homestead, including lavender, echinacea, and chamomile, which we use to create our own natural remedies.

One of our long-term goals is to build a full apothecary, where we can offer natural products such as essential oils, herbal teas, and homemade tinctures to support health and healing.

We believe that nature provides everything we need to nourish and heal our bodies, and we’re excited to share our knowledge and products with others who are interested in embracing natural wellness.

Our Homestead Today

We are continually learning, growing, and expanding our knowledge of homesteading and natural healing.

Our land is home to a growing orchard, a bountiful vegetable garden, and a medicinal herb garden that supports our passion for holistic health.

We’re raising laying hens for fresh eggs, caring for our beloved lionhead rabbits, and preparing to welcome honey bees to our homestead, further deepening our commitment to sustainability and natural healing.

While our journey has been filled with challenges, it has also been incredibly rewarding.

Every day on the homestead brings new opportunities for growth, connection, and learning, and we are excited to continue sharing our experiences with the Wildly Bold community.
